National Safety Council Flagger Certification Program:
Despite the critical importance flaggers play at work zone site, this function is often assigned tot he least knowledgeable person on the crew. The result is a high incidence of collision and injuries to workers as well as the public, not to mention expensive lawsuits for employers. Providing training for work zone flaggers can minimize these unfortunate occurrences. Also, defense in a court of law is to show offensive action - credible training is an important part of that offense. The National Safety Council's Flagger Training Program is a comprehensive skill-building session that meets the federal guidelines for controlling traffic through construction work areas as published in its Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The four hour Flagger Training Course follows a "best practice approach" and includes performance based testing prior to flaggers actually being placed on the job.
